Day 2 - Robotics at Te Atatu Intermediate

Friday 22th February

Recap
After last week I needed to test the two new robots, the boys assembled, to find out why they wouldn't connect via blue tooth. I replaced the blue tooth modules and "hey presto" the robots connected.

LED Matrix
I thought the addition of the LED matrix on our mBots would be very cool. Last week due to the blue tooth problem we didn't get to install the matrix. So our first challenge this week was to set up the matrix and find out what it can do. I provided the boys with the LED matrix kit and a YouTube video and let them go for it!

Day 1 - Robotics at Te Atatu Intermediate

Friday 15th February

It's always a fun challenge to put a mBot kit together from out of the box. The building went well, both groups working collaborative with their buddies completed their mBot in good time. The blue mBot was first completed so we move the tables to the side and in readiness for the test drive. We had trouble connecting our bots to the iPads via Bluetooth. After some tinkering, it was clear they were not going to connect. We had to go to plan B. We had two spare robotics and they connected, so game on! Both teams took some time to explore the remote control features on the app. Next, we had three challenges. Firstly, the football match (see our video). The second challenge was the figure eight line following and finally setting up the LED matrix display. Challenge 1 was so much fun that the time escaped us and we ran short of completing the other two challenges. These will have to wait for next week. Pai te mahi tamariki!
